PTO Dollars at Work

What does the PTO do with the money raised?

The net proceeds earned from concessions, membership dues, after prom donations, directory advertising, spirit wear, and yard sign sales fund the many activities in the PTO's budget.  These include:

  • Hospitality (dances, NHS, Career Night)
  • After prom
  • Senior Activities
  • Staff appreciation, Luncheons & Conferences
  • T-shirts for all students on first day of school
  • Tiger Mentor shirts
  • Scholarships  - (2) $1000, (1) $500 Trade School and Retiring Teachers
  • Relay for Life
  • Blue Valley Educational Foundation
  • Guest Speakers
  • Plus grant funds of $35,000 to support academics, athletics and the arts. (Musical rights, Band, Clubs, Football, Basketball, Swim, Wrestling, Soccer, Cross Country, Track, Cheer, Dance, Debate, Choir, Tennis, Golf, sports uniforms, coach training, HUDL etc).

Any funds leftover from these budgeted activities are allocated to a "Grant Fund". Each year, taking into account the school's budget that they have to work with, Scott Bacon and Matt Ortman direct how these PTO grant funds are allocated among athletics, academics, performing arts, visual arts, and various other programs that enhance the learning environment at BVHS. Grants will be taken in October, January and April each year.
